Buncefield Process Safety Report: New Standards for Fuel Storage Facilities in the UK

The United Kingdom’s Process Safety Leadership Group (PSLG) final report on Safety & Environmental Standards for Fuel Storage Sites was published on 11 December 2009, the fourth anniversary of the fire and explosion at the Buncefield fuel storage facility. The recommendations contained in the report effectively become best practice for the UK fuel storage industry and are also expected to be widely referenced in countries outside of the UK.

In March 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provided free public access to the consolidated Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Chemical Substance Inventory on its website for the first time. The TSCA inventory contains EPA’s consolidated list of industrial chemicals. This article provides source links for downloading the TSCA inventory.



Transitional Landfill Operation in Low Income Countries

Many existing, unlined open dumps and landfills in low income countries are closing and will be replaced with new, lined landfills with leachate collection and treatment. One key mechanism for ensuring new landfill operational success is to develop an interim design and operational approach for the existing landfill. The interim approach is a transitional step that incorporates improved landfilling practices, enables the existing landfill to be operated to a higher standard, and initiates the operational paradigm shift needed to successfully operate the new landfill.



U.S. OSHA Targets 15,000 Facilities with High Incident Rates
